Dog clothes, such as dog sweaters, dog coats and dog boots, can be practical and are available online.

If you are looking for dog cloths for dress up purposes or costumes, you have come to the wrong place. There are plenty of internet sites that offer human-like dog clothing to dress up dogs (or other pets) for fun, but it has been my experience that most dogs do not like this. There are some dog clothing items that are sometimes practical and necessary though and you can also find these items online as well.

For the most part, I don't mind people dressing up their dogs in human-like clothes or costumes. Hey, it can be fun (especially for photos!). The biggest problem that I have with it is when it is obvious that the dog hates it and the owner(s) keep persisting to the point of pestering their dog.

I think that the most common (and acceptable) "dress up" type of item that I have seen on dogs the most often is a simple bandana (tied around the neck like a collar). Most dogs don't seem to mind a bandana and they look pretty nice. They can also help for identification purposes if the dog runs off... (.i.e. "hey did anyone see a black lab with a red bandana run by here...")

Anyway, this page has more to do with dog clothes (dog clothing, clothes for dogs, etc.) for more practical purposes. Yes, there are times when a little extra protection (dog clothes) is in order, but there is also a need for some common sense too. Many dogs (especially dog sled breeds :-)) LOVE the cold weather, dressed just as they are (with their built in fur coats) and need no additional protection at all.

When a little extra protection (dog clothes) may be in order

For the most part, dogs that spend most of their time indoors and have become accustomed to their controlled environment or older dogs, that are a little more sensitive, may need extra protection (i.e. dog sweaters) in very cold weather.

Also, dogs that have lost fur (from medical conditions, operations, etc.) or who have fur that has been shaved may need additional protection from the cold (dog sweaters) and/or the suns rays (a light protective dog shirt).

In cold/wet/muddy weather or on rugged surfaces, dog boots keep your dog's feet protected from road salt, broken glass, hot surfaces and more. Dog boots can also keep mud off of your dog's feet and your floors.
