My Talking Cat

Moonshine is my cat. We adopted Moonshine from the SPCA when he was six weeks old. He was the runt of the litter and his siblings were climbing all over him. Big blue eyes peaked at me from under the pile of fur. Too small for a leg tag, his leg tag had been put around his neck like an extremely loose collar.

Moonshine is an incredibly lovable cat. He constantly requires attention. He constantly jumps onto my book when I am reading and puts his paws around my neck like he's hugging me. If I don't play with him when he desires it, he cries.

The weirdest way that Moonshine tries to get my attention is that he talks. It started with the word Mommy. At first it sounded like "Mawm me", but he practices a lot so now it sounds dead on. Soon after, he started saying my daughters names, "Megan (mweg han)" and "Tierney (tear nee)". He also says "no" and "now".

My oldest daughter thought it would be hilarious if he learnt the word "hello". Within a few days she had him saying "hel loow".  Within a week, he was adding people's names after hello. Often he wakes up my oldest daughter with "Hello Megan" as he bangs on her bedroom door.

Sounds cute? Try having a relaxing bath with someone pawing at the door saying "Hello Mommy". Frankly it's a little creepy.

My children have now taken it upon themselves to teach Moonshine to say "Hello Mommy hungry now".
